“When the doctor said she was unable to return home due to the Alzheimer’s I had to do what was best for my mother. And I had to pick the best. My mother is my best friend. I had got her a room on Amber Terrace that is so home, it’s so homey, because my mother is such a fragile, delicate woman, we were able to decorate this room up just to make it like her home. She was able to bring her kitty. I selected the Altoona Center for Nursing Care for my mother because I have worked in this building for fourteen years. I work with excellent people. I watch it every day. I live it every day. And everybody gets treated like that’s their parents. That could be your mother, your father. I had to do the very best for my mom and I know that the care is here. Amber Terrace has helped my mother be more independent like she couldn't be at home. They’ve helped my mother be safe. They’ve helped her get out more, to be with people, they take her to activities. She has a best friend now, in the room beside her. They go into each other’s rooms. They’ll make my doctor’s appointments for me. They offer to even take her for me. There’s always somebody there. She’s not alone. That is so important. That is so important to my mother. It’s nice to be able to sleep at night knowing that my mother is warm, she’s not hungry, and there’s always somebody there just a step away. But it’s like being in her own home. My favorite thing about Amber Terrace is the care. I know she’s being cared for. I am just fortunate that I can have her here. If you care about your family and you want them to have the best care this is the place to be.”
“I came because my wife was here last year. I seen the care that my wife got when she was here thirty-nine days and I'm getting the same kind of care while I’m here. I’m here recuperating from a hip injury. I had a hip replacement. I’ve improved tremendously. I had an operation the 24th of May, and I was in the doctor’s office yesterday, Dr. Rocco, he can’t believe how good I’m coming along. And he said if I keep going like I am, I’ll probably be be out of here by July 6th, maybe before. And I had to make a decision where I was going put her at. We signed up for Amber Care and she did so well I took her home. I’ve had her home for a year and a half now. They named this place ‘care’ and it is care. Anything, ask for anything, they come around, no problem. And I get to see her every day and I know she’s well taken care of. I treat somebody else like they treat me, and these people here does that. Without the care my wife’s getting, I don’t know what I’d do without her.”
“We had originally thought about taking him to the veterans hospital, the veterans home, because he is a veteran, and really didn’t know what else to do because this came on us suddenly. And then after he had been here and we knew he was going to be discharged, somebody told us, well, you know, we have facilities up here for assisted living, and I didn’t really know that. I’ve driven by the building but I’ve never been in here. And Morgan took me through the facility and talked to me about it. Everything was out in the open, she explained everything, she talked about benefits that no one else at Veterans had ever even mentioned that dad could get that really helped him afford to be able to stay here. The thing that really impressed me was that when Morgan said to me that our philosophy is, the residents don’t live where we work but we work in their home and that really made me feel like it was a place that would be suitable for dad, that they cared and that they really looked after the residents very well. And I find that to be the case. The other thing that impressed me was the fact that when dad moved up to his room his name was on the outside, everything was ready for him, you know, as if he were coming home and I thought that was very kind and very welcoming. My dad’s favorite thing about Amber Terrace I think is the friendliness of the staff. He always tell me when people come in to visit him. They allow me to come in and out whenever I want to, I can take him home, I can bring him back, they’re very helpful with all that.”
